Retroflexes abound in eastern Norwegian (my dialect).
Usually, combinations of V+r+C means the C is an unvoiced
retroflex; retr. t in "kart" (map), retr. s in "karse" (a
kind of edible plant) etc. etc. My grandparents have voiced
retroflexes as well.
In and around Oslo (and spreading to the rest of the
country), the ich-laut in words like "kj=F8re" (to drive),
"kjenne" (to know, feel) are being replaced by a retroflex
s, to the shock and horror of the establishment :)
