Because consciousness exists in several levels. We have many detailed
memories that we aren't usually conscious of, otherwise our top
awareness level would be too busy. As far as I can see, each word or
speech element has its pronunciation stored in its proper place,
which is then reproduced faithfully at need, without much thought
being given to the actual process, which is very complicated indeed.
