"Mus' be jelly, cuz jam don' shake like that" Can anyone pinpoint that? By
me, it dates from the ealy 40s,and (now) has a definite Black (blues
tradition?) feel about it....but I grew up in a lily-white town where the
most exotic ethnic group was Norwegians (well, Mennonites too, but only on
Saturdays when they came to town).

PS when I first grew an Abe Lincoln type beard, back in the 70s, my mother
was horrified-- not because I looked like a hippie, but because I looked like
a Mennonite!
