Hurrying up to add my two cents (belatedly)...
Re the Borgesian classification, it's indeed from "The Analytical
Language of John Wilkins", but those who have never read Borges
may have seen it quoted by M. Foucault at the beginning of _Les mots
et les choses_, or by Umberto Eco in "The search for the perfect
language" (ch. 9) near the end, when he comments on the _Polygraphia_
invented by Athanasius Kircher.
"The future is all around us, waiting, in moments
of transition, to be born in moments of revelation.
No one knows the shape of that future or where it
will take us. We know only that it is always born
in pain." -- G'Kar quoting G'Quon, in "Babylon 5"
