I first joined the list around March 1997, and auxlang was there even then. I
think it was formed because of the debates over which auxlang was better than
which, etc.

The mood on auxlang is very different than the laid-back atmosphere in conlang.
I'm actually subscribed to both, even though my auxlang interest is very far
back on the list.
