And the worst thing was that *I knew it already* (it was the Lorelei
song, "Ich weiss nicht, was soll es bedeuten dass ich so traurig
bin"), I just wasn't going to let on that I did *for him* and recite
it in class. After those four months, I just came back silently, sat
the exam, and got 7 out of 10 in spite of having missed more than a
quarter's instruction. After that, he seemed to *respect* me;
probably defiance, not submissiveness, was what he valued. If only
he'd made that clear. Ah well...
