I have only one conlang in which I have ever thought about inventing the
words for terrestrial flora and fauna (most other conlangs of mine are
spoken in different worlds/on other planets). I never carried it through,
though, but I do remember thinking of making stinging nettles "immortal
weed", for the very simple reason that I was trying to eradicate the nettles
in our garden at the time (and failing). Grass would be something like
"suffocating plant", because the only patches without weeds were those where
the grass had grown much too long. I had many more like this, but I didn't
write anything down. Maybe working in a completely untended garden could
give you more ideas... :-)
