Cool...i met someone on IRC once who was another Steg, because his last
name is something like Stegeman, if i remember correctly.
My cousin came up with Steg sometime during 8th or 7th grade....he would
make up nicknames for me and my brother, and then my brother would
respond with a nickname for him, and then he would make a new one, and my
brother would respond, and so on, with the names evolving....my brother
had a list of him and Jeffrey's somewhere, but it's probably away in
storage now. All i remember is that somewhere along the line there was a
stage (which i liked) that went:
Stephen ~ Jeffrey ~ Alan
Septagon ~ Hexagon ~ Octogon
and then, sometime later, came the stage of
Steg ~ Jag ~ Ag
And that's when it stuck. Probably because my brother went to a
different highschool for freshie year, and me and my cousin were left in
the same class. However, then my cousin developed a dirty mind, and
started evolving the names again:
Steg
Steed (from a line in _Romeo and Juliet_)
Steedwanger
Steedbanger
Gangbang...
Luckily, some of the other people in my class who were fond of giving
people nicknames heard "Steg" and didn't hear the other versions. :-) .
So then more than just my cousin started calling me Steg (one guy put a Z
at the end...Stegz).
And then i made my AIM screenname (and IRC nick) StegBazak, so it spread
everywhere.
Except now, since my computer doesn't work in college, none of my friends
there know about "Steg" (although the "other people fond of nicknames"
from my highschool class may be coming to my college next year), so i'm
not called that there. yet.
