Pretty close, really.  The last year I had information for was 1998,
in which New York City (meaning New York, Kings, Queens, Bronx, and Richmond
Counties of New York State) was 1.5+2.3+2.0+1.2+0.4 = 7.4 million.
Not a big difference.
