There's the rub. Not all mailers are equally sensible about creating a
text/plain message when provided with a Rich Text source. I've seen
horrific manglings produced by certain mailers, even in recent years. The
situation seems to be improving (especially since the rise of HTML and
MIME), but it is clearly _still_ improving.
I do agree with you in principle -- it's the users of older technology
that need to adapt to new technology and not the other way around -- my
common sense tells me Henrik's closer to right on this matter. It's easier
to prevent problems than to ask people to solve them themselves.
