In the Philippines, earlier in this century, the national languages _were_
Spanish and English. English and Spanish were the two languages of
business, education, and government (though recently Spanish has dropped
out of favor, and English is most used. But even that is being phased out
by Pilipino (mostly Tagalog with bits of other Philippine languages added
to appease the rest of the archipelago). Of course, various tribal
languages are spoken at home too.
