I like it so much because it sounds slightly mucky, a bit like hein, hein?

English Speackers obviously want to use it because of interference from
English "in". What exactly _is_ it used for, then? I've been told by a few
L1 speakers of French that I'm virtually fluent and the way I've always
judged it before is how it sounds to my ear.
