Welcome! :-)
I'm jealous -- your father is a conlanger too? Wow. I don't have any
conlanging relatives, or at least none that I know of (and as far as I
know, I only have one relative who's interested in any kind of
linguistics at all)...
Since we're all (re-)introducing ourselves: My name is Julia, and I'm
a thirty-something German living in Finland. I'm a linguist by
training; I've spent most of my working life in various technical
fields, but always doing something with some linguistic aspect or
another (software development at first -- spell checkers, syntax
analysis tools, and the like; but nowadays I'm working as a technical
writer in the telecommunications sector).
I have a handful of *really* sketchy conlangs -- or rather, stacks and
bundles of notes labeled "Collection of ideas for a writing system
based on such-and-such", "Collection of ideas for a language with
syntax of this-and-this type", "Collection of ideas about phonemic
tone", and so on. ;-)
And then there's Sakwosin, which is somewhat less sketchy (well, it
should be -- it's the one I've been working on the longest, about a
year now); so far, I've completed the phonology, I have some more or
less tentative vocabulary, and there's also something that will
hopefully become a coherent morphology and syntax someday. *sigh* It's
not easy, though; I have this compulsion to avoid anything that looks
too familiar or "European" or "easy", so I constantly find myself
tangled up in complicated polysynthetic morphology or inhumanly
complex sets of sandhi rules... :-/
Now back to lurking...
Regards,
Julia 8-)
