I know they (books, online material, etc.) keep on telling people that
it is velar in German, but it is uvular in most dialects. There are
dialects that have it velar (e.g. Austrian), but most are uvular.
(Pronouncing it velar might give you a Slavic accent. :-))
If the phoneme is called /x/, ok, but the phones are usually [C] after
front vowel and other consonants, and [X] after back vowels.
Just me two eurocents.
