My first two contacts with conlanging were with Heinlien, who wrote a story
using the idea of a maximally efficient language, and the Scientific American
article about
Loglan. After that I started experimenting off and on. Tolkien's languages had
little effect on me, except that they emphasized how into his conculture he
was. Briefly I flirted with Esperanto, but never quite had the energy to get
actively involved. With Dungeons and Dragons however, I got the idea I could
create bits of apparent languages, by adjusting phonemes and imagined
religions and cultures. After that I could not stop, for long. The Internet
has made it a full time effort.
