Or both at about the same time. My interest in Tolkien only predates my
interest in Esperanto by about a year or two. Star Wars was an earlier
influence. But the first period of great activity in my conlang hobby =
came
after I started learning Esperanto and at the same time trying to learn =
as
much about Tolkien's languages as I could from Jim Allan's "Introduction =
to
Elvish" and the Book of Lost Tales. I had my own Elvish languages, but I
also had languages influenced by Esperanto. Speaking of RPG's, I remember
now that I once started translating a list of monsters from the AD&D
Monster Manual into Esperanto. I wonder if I still have it?
