<http://alumni.eecs.berkeley.edu/~lorentz/Ancient_Scripts/> This is a very nice page with examples and historical background of many many scripts, showing the (supposed) relationships between them. I like this subject too, so it'd be nice to know if you find something else. ;-) As for con-scripts, I really don't think that much. I like drawing signs and characters; that I then link them to sounds is a matter of coincidence. When I created the Eqalar script for Drasel=E9q, I just wanted to make it different (it's written vertical) and elegant (the consonants look vaguely Arabic, and the vowels are small marks). I was lazy and I used modified forms of the unvoiced consonants for the voiced ones; it was not exactly a good choice, but it can (mostly) be explained in the fictional diachronics of the language. Nowadays I'm experimenting with monograms, a horizontal adaptation, and different forms of letters (for example, with curls and double or wider lines, and several kinds of stylization).
