That only works for inflecting languages, however. The lack of inflection
has long been used as an argument to support a Sino-Vietnamese connection.
And many Vientamese derivational particles are borrowed from Chinese, making
the link only seem stronger. Nowadays, however, Vietnamese's lack of
inflection is explained by influence by Chinese, and all other similarities
by borrowing/influence.
