Positive. /&/ is extremely common in modern British English, even among RP extremists. The vowel in 'catch' might well have been pronounced as /e/ up until the 50's - 70's in these circles, but it's very rare now, having been replaced practically everywhere by /&/ giving modern RP /k&tS/. Mike
