Actually, I think Imperative could be subsumed under Performative, on the
assumption there is an underlying "I order/command that you...."
In fact IIRC one version of Transformational Grammar claimed that all
sentences had an underlying Performative:
I state that.... (declarative)
I question/ask that.... (interrog.)
I order that.... (imper.)
The only time the "underlying performative" wasn't deleted was with actual
performatives: "I sentence you to death/ 20 years", "I now pronounce you
man and wife" etc. (This view of grammar, I think, didn't get very
far.........)
