here's the synopsis of the story i heard.

- Poor miller
- has daughter
- rich prince wants to marry
- miller tells prince daughter can spin straw out of gold
- prince takes said girl back to palace with a room full of straw and a
spinning wheel
- girl cant spin straw into gold, and begins to cry
- gnome hears crying asks what's wrong. She tells him, he offers to make a
deal
- he offers to spin straw into gold if she gives him her first born
- she agrees, grudgingly, and gnome starts a spinnin'
- prince is greedy, wants her to keep doing this. Gnome comes back two
more nights. Each night she's sent to a bigger room full of straw
- finally the prince and girl marry
- gnome goes away
- girl (now princess/queen) has child, gnome comes back
- gnome gives her three days to decide to give up the child or not, offers
to relent if she can guess his name
- each night she tries to guess his name, fails
- the final night, she hatches a plan with one of her servants
- plan: he is to follow rumpy (as i like to call him) to where he lives
(clandestinely), and find out his name
- servant does so, and finds rumpy dancing around a fire singing how
clever he is and how no one will ever guess his name (rumplestiltskin),
and how the child is his
- Servant hurries back to princess/queen and tells her
- Rumpy returns for the kid, but princess asks him to give her one more
chance to tell his name
- She tells him that it's "Rumplestiltskin"
- rumpy gets so upset and jumps around so hard he splits himself in two
- fin
