i always reassure myself that it's because i have a
functional memory : until something makes sense to me
i can't remember it ; as soon as it makes sense i
can't forget it ( well, not for a long time )
so i can remember numbers easily if i can see a
pattern, and names if i can find some way of making
them fit, but until then i'm hopeless
i also have quite a few problems with nouns. i'm often
found saying things along the lines of 'did you put
the thingies in the whatnot ? you know, the writing to
people thingies in red put thingies in through the
slot whatnot'
a few of these then become lexicalised ( a toothy
thing is a single hole punch, a staple picker is a
nicer name for a staple remover usw )
