My guess is that the liquids and perhaps nasals could be called semivowels as well.

If you can find it (and read French) the series 'Que Sais Je' has a nice little book on IE, called, I believe "l'Indo-Europeen" or perhaps "La Langue IE". Of course, I can't find it cos I just got done rearranging my bookshelves and can no longer locate anything properly. You might also try Sihler's "New Comparative Grammar of Greek and Latin". I know, it's not about IE per se, but it does have a lot good information on IE (esp. phonology). Welcome to the list, Padraic.
