The 'h' in my family name is strictly orthographic, too - it's pronounced
/ju:anson/ - which doesn't stop Germans - who you'd think true appreciators of
silent aitches - from compulsively pronouncing it by analogy with their Johann.
Naturally, they also like to spell it **Johannson.
