I'd pronounce |ow| as [&u] usually, myself. And [&] is indeed closer to [E] than [o], so I say we should go with it. [smEut] > "smout" [Eud@bEriz] > "owdaberries"

Oops. I'd say it [Indaj@] or [Indaij@] as well.
