Since we're all introducing ourselves...
I'm Sylvia Sotomayor. I'm from California, Southern California to be
more precise. I currently live in the town of Claremont at the
eastern edge of L.A. County. I'm 35 years old.
My mother is German, from Berlin, and her mother is German from
Silesia. My father is from Nicaragua. I speak English, rusty
Berliner-Deutsch, and un poquito español. In college I took a course
in German Dialectology and another in Medieval Welsh. I may someday
take Old Norse.
I majored in Linguistics as an undergrad at Berkeley. Phoenetics
was never my strong point, as I prefer Morphology and Syntax. Since
then I've worked in the book business in one way or another.
Currently I'm selling Science, Math, and Business textbooks to a
dozen or so schools out in my area.
As for music, I love the Blues, especially Koko Taylor and Etta
James. I also love Celtic music, and I am a fool for fiddle
players. I like most folk music, as long as it is at least 100 years
old (or sounds like it should be) and isn't full of political
propaganda. (OTOH, Jacobite propaganda is fascinating.)
My conlang is Kélen, which is undergoing an extensive revision in
my, um, copious spare time.
