Dear Etak,
My conlang also has a syllabary. I have never felt the need to distinguish
any sort of "case" (in the sense of upper case - lower case). As far as I
know, it's only a few languages based on the Greek alphabet (Roman,
Cyrillic) that have this distiction. Basically, nobody really needs capital
letters!
If your script only has these sounds in certain environments, then stay with
your original idea. I think it'll aid verisimilitude to your script.
Actually, I think "might" is fast disappearing from English, due to the fact
that for most of the time it's indistinguishable from "may". If you wanted
to, I suppose you could say it's conditional, but since the verb is
inherently conditional anyway, it's losing most of its semantic force. Why
not just use "may"?
As regards the French question, "x died" is "x est mort(e)". For someone who
died imperfectly "x was dying as I watched" I daresay one of the native
speakers will give you an answer. The imperfect tense is regular so you'd
expect "x morait" but it's not a phrase I've ever used!
Mike
