But when people changed over to the metric system, they still often kept
the old system. The English still use feet sometimes, and sometimes
meters. Same would happen with your proposal, and so there'd be
confusion. Is 5 inches 5 *old* inches or 5 *new* inches? I don't see
how context would clarify anything.
Besides, why keep these old names, if we're going to change, we might as
well go all out and go to the metric system, instead of having a
pathetic pseudo-replacement.
