Tolkien was one influence of many. My earliest languages (Olaetian and
Neesklaaz) date from the late 70's, around the time of _Star Wars_, which
may have been an early influence. H. Beam Piper's short story _Omnilingual_
was another one. I also heard about Esperanto from somewhere, and learned
some of it from a book in the local public library. By the time I was
deeply involved in conlanging as a hobby, Marc Okrand's Klingon dictionary
was published. My interest in natlangs was also a source of inspiration for
some of my conlangs; in particular, R.M.W. Dixon's book on the Australian
language Dyirbal (also spelled Jirrbal) inspired me to create a number of
conlangs with ergative morphology.
