Let's put it this way: I read Tolkien at such an early age that his
conlanging was no doubt causally related to my own. However, I am certain
that, even if Tolkien had never existed, I would be constructing languages
anyhow. In other words, it was inevitable, but it was nice to have a sort
of role model to clear the way (particularly for a youngish child who knows
nothing of linguistics or the staggering amount of variety in language).
