It's obviously the Scandinavian lutfisk (sorry, forgotten any IPA, but the
'u' is high mid rounded, though I think high front rounded
would do too, I pronounce it quite fronted myself), which is cod (or some
other similar fish, we've had pike) which has been bathed in lye ("lut" in
Swedish). Unless correctly washed several times, this is deadly. Personally
I liked it when I was small, after a long dislike of it I tried last
Christmas , and found it to be essentially fish with most fish-taste
extracted from it. It's served with pepper and salt (lots of pepper). Yes,
It's a traditional Swedish Christmas-dish.
If you want some better transcriptions of the name, ask those from Sweden, I
don't pronounce it like them anyway.
