Actually, the Fifth Sun was an AZTEC belief, so far as I know, the Maya
did not refer to previous or later worlds.  And the current calendrical
age will end on December *20*, 2012, not the 24th.  On that date,
depending on one's interpretations of Mayan beliefs, either the world
will end, or there'll be a "renewal".  I've heard both interpretations
given.
