I would suggest (since it's something I've noticed): have people
appoint/nominate threads for elaboration into articles.

Sure, the archives are there, but how is one to tell the quality stuff
from the mass? That's an issue for an oldbie archivist - to pick out
the Important Conversations that have happened on CONLANG, and compile
them - and perhaps de-thread them into something that's coherent as a
document. (E.g., the current thread on 2d writing systems will
probably make for a good one, but would need to be unraveled into
positions / arguments / counter-arguments / ideas of various kinds,
for future use.)
