And as intellectually and morally advanced as I think I am, I come off
sounding like a total redneck ignoramus. (I happen to be an *educated
redneck*, thank you. I have a real high school diploma.) I didn't
mean to say Ethiopian music was un-advanced, as though music by dead
white guys is any better except from a classical Eurocentric view. I
meant to say that Techians just like pentatonic scales, much in the way
East Africans and Celts do. Actually, Techians like diatonic scales,
but music often vacillates between 7-tone and 5-tone.
Actually, modern music is based on 6-tone and 8-tone, thanks to blues
influence in the US. The former is the pentatonic scale plus tritone,
the traditional "blues scale". The latter is the former plus a note
halfway between the 1 1/2 tone skips, i.e. 3/4 tones -- the "mean tone
dorian" right? (I think we discussed that briefly on conculture or
conlang...)
This too is better suited for conculture. I'm getting my lists
backwards again.
