I had a romance conlang where the word for "water" was _af_:
/akwa/ -> /apa/ -> /ap@/ -> /ap/ -> /af/
Language as _lim_:
/liNgwa/ -> /limba/ -> /limb@/ -> /lim(b)/ -> /lim/
