Hmm, yeah, I realized you were more asking about that thing... I pondered
for a minute or so if I should devote special mention to the direction
question. Alas, I wasn't sure what to say of it; I believe I've seen
languages where assimilation processes work inconsistently in either
direction (Latin comes to mind, for some reason)... too bad I don't have my
books with me - I know my favorite phonology book says something about this.
Perhaps I can add something more valuable later :)
