I've decided to put my linguistic knowledge to good use (besides
conlanging). No hard feelings intended to all conlangers - cuz hey,
I'm a conlanger too!!
I want to try out what it is like to be a field linguist. So I'm
starting to sketch out a grammar for Ilocano. This is a language
spoken in the northern part of Luzon island in the Philippines, and
it happens to be the mother-tongue of my mother. In fact, I'm using
my mother as my informant.
I know almost nothing of Ilocano and I understand even less. So I'm
not "cheating" 8-) But hopefully, my knowledge of another Filipino
language like Tagalog will aid me. I might even be able to make
money if I turn this into a grammar book for Ilocanos in say the US
who would like to keep in touch with their language.
Just thought I'd share that.
