According to the "Cassell's New Latin Dictionary" _canis_ is of common gender, which means it can mean either dog or bitch. The only way to distinguish would be by context or by the use of an adjective that differentiates gender. canis pulcher - a pretty dog canis pulchra - a pretty bitch Charlie http://wiki.frath.net/user:caeruleancentaur
