Sorry, had an Elaine Benes moment there.  I had absolutely no idea.
I have always thought - without ever bothering to look it up, obviously -
that <'til> was a shortening of <until> and that the spelling <till> for
that use was an error.  That such is not the case is something of a
worldview-altering discovery for me. :)
