A very odd use of "glance" that has bothered me ever since I first saw
(glimpsed, glanced at) it:
in 1964, during the NY World's Fair, the NYC subways had an advertising
placard for a brand of sunglasses-- a young child wearing the said glasses,
and boasting "Look, Ma! I'm glancing through XXX sunglasses!" (IIRC the ad
went on to note that they were the official sunglasses of the World's
Fair....)
