Ivetsian has four sets of articles. As I haven't completely worked out
the sound changes that lead to it from Uatakassi, I'll refer to them by
their U. ancestors
Li: "Introductory" - introduces a new topic into the conversation, and
indicates that more will be said about it later
Vaa: (No name yet) - Refers to something that the other person has
mentioned, but that the speaker knows little about
Iu: Definite - Refers to a known object, roughly equivalent to the
definite in English
Funu: Review - Already mentioned in the conversation
There might also be an indefinite.
Li, Vaa, and Funu may be used with proper names.
