Well, yes, people "have sex" (that explains all the babies, doncha know? ;> )
but they also have gender. Here in the States, "gender" and "sex" are used
interchangeably, although there tends to be a preference for "gender." (As
the joke goes, when a teenager was asked for his sex on a form, he wrote,
"Yes, please.")
