I think I've already mentioned that polysyllabic words
may be introduced for such technical vocabulary. The
basic vocabulary repertoire of a language, instead,
will change very little and very slowly. And, OTOH,
almost always there's a possibility of "translating"
technical terminology instead of borrowing it. Many
technical words that European languages borrow from
Latin and Greek are named in e.g. Chinese by using
compounds of basic words.
