I don't think anyone has "delusions" that there aren't dialects.  My
dialect tends to be fairly close to "Standard", with the exception of
using things like "split infinitives", and sentence-final prepositions.
Also, I occasionally use Southern features like "fixin'" (but not
"fittin'") and "might could" ("might be able to", but there's a
difference between the two that I can't quite put my finger on)
