If this were Valdyan (which doesn't have a middle or even a passive
voice, but does have impersonal constructions that can emulate the
passive) I'd do it, especially since the resumptive pronoun *does*
seem to be the subject of _kanyan_.
Valdyan has a similar construction with _le_, which can be reflexive
or resumptive, but in fact simply is a "dummy" object pronoun
standing in for the subject of the main clause. The only example I
can find would confuse you even more, so I'm not giving it ;-)
