The German Wikipedia article ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi )
says that it was "originally formed in ironic analogy to 'Sozi' (=
'Sozialist' [Socialist] or follower of the SPD, the German
Social-Democrat Party), by Hitler's opponents".
