Both Emacs and VIM have native Windows versions. I would recommend using
these under Windows unless you want the Unix environment. (Personally, I'm
ambivalent to Emacs and VIM.* Normally I'd use VIM but if I'm in X and
gvim isn't available, I'll use XEmacs. This is so currently because I'm
stuck in Debian and the vim-gtk package just seems to be an executable
called gvim that runs a regular text-mode vim :( )
*Christophe will remember me saying I don't like Emacs; that was before I
gave it a chance.
