Well, knowing no Japanese at all, I would guess that it means "foot".

Which leads us to "baritsu, the Japanese system of wrestling" referred
to by Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, there is no such thing...
or wasn't until the Japanese Sherlock Holmes society was created:
they call themselves "the Friends of Baritsu".
