Indeed, that's the trick to conlanging - you can do whatever you want.
No one here will ever tell you you're making your conlang "wrong."
When I make conlangs, personally I usually start with some consistent
basis to work from, ie. the most essential parts of the grammar and the
like, but then let the language grow "organically" from there. You can
always go back and change things.
Oh, and one more thing: I like the poem you just posted here, it sounds
quite nice. I hope to see more about your language - does it have a name
yet?
