The abhorrent "guess the type from the suffix" behavior in IE is pretty lazy. If you're just linking to a file ending in .sch, you could try adding a query string that ends in .txt: <a href="/path/to/thrjotrunn.sch?foo.txt">Þrjótrunn</a>
